This morning I stopped by a place I haven’t visited for a few months – the San Joaquin Nature Preserve. The first thing I noticed as soon as I pulled into the parking lot was the completely dried out first pond, full of high vegetation. The last time I was here it was half full of water and had lots of small birds in it. Not this time. But it was still very pretty with the fall colors.

I walked through the butterfly garden first, but it wasn’t in season. This super tall (sycamore?) tree at the entrance of the garden did look pretty awesome.

At the next pond I saw dozens of white pelicans resting on a small island.

Finally, the high point of the day was meeting and photographing this beautiful great blue heron. He just kept posing, came out from the pond and walked very close to me on the path. It was fun!!!!
